Kada Lori Reimuller (Meryl Streep) sazna da njen sin Robbie (Seth Adkins) ima epilepsiju, ona u počeku vjeruje medicinskom osoblju u pogledu toga koja je najbolja metoda da se ta bolest dovode pod kontrolul. Međutim,kako se Robbijevo zdravstveno stanje naglo pogorša Lori postaje frustrirana i očajna, te odlučuje da sama istraži određene tretmane.
