Polazna osnova za ovu klasičnu komediju bila je nemačka farsa "Fanfare ljubavi", u kojoj su dva muzičara bila toliko očajna u traženju posla po mafijaškom Čikagu 1929. da su se presvukli u žene i svirali u ženskom orkestru. U Vajdlerovoj (Wilder) verziji dva muzičara Džo (Joe) (Tony Curtis) i Džeri (Jerry) (Jack Lemmon) gube poslove i kao slučajni svedoci gangsterskog masakra beže u voz za Floridu, ali sada kao muzičarke Džozefina (Josephine) i Dafni (Daphne), članice orkestra Slatke Sju (Sweet Sue). Obojica se odmah zaljubljuju u pevačicu Šugar Kejn (Sugar Kane) (Marilyn Monroe), ali zbog novog identiteta moraju da sakriju svoje prave žudnje.
